What Are Keloids?
Keloids are enlarged scars that can result from a cut, burn, scratch, sting or body piercing. The keloid forms when the skin produces an excessive amount of scar tissue, growing larger than the wound itself. Keloids can develop from very minor skin damage, and often appear a month or so after the original damage occurs. They can continue to grow for months or years and will not reduce on their own.
