What is Actinic Keratosis?

Actinic Keratosis is a very common benign skin sun damage lesion. It is a slow growing pink or light red scaly lesion that occurs mainly in sun exposed areas. It has a risk of becoming cancerous one day therefore it needs to be treated.

Cryotherapy is a good option, however, it will not provide any specimen to be sent for testing. Therefore, Surgical Shave Excision is a better option. It will provide a specimen for histology, especially if we suspect Basal Cell Carcinoma. The procedure will be done under local anaesthetic and would last approximately 20 minutes.
