Although Laser tattoo removal is often suggested for tattoo removal, it does not complete the removal in only one session and the patient would need to attend further sessions depending on the density and colours of the tattoo. Other methods of tattoo removal include surgical dermabrasion and surgical excision. Both methods usually get rid of the tattoo in only one or two sessions.

Dermabrasion is a surgical method that removes the outer layers of the skin in a controlled manner. The intent is to remove the layers of the skin that contain the ink particles, thereby removing the tattoo. The procedure will be done under local anaesthetic and would only last approximately 30 minutes. The wound will heal by itself which takes few weeks leaving a pink patch that tends to fade away over time.

Surgical Excision involves cutting out the skin that contains the tattoo. This technique is best used for small tattoos. The procedure will be done under local anaesthetic and would only last approximately 30 minutes. The wound will be closed with sutures and a dressing will be applied on. It will leave a linear scar that usually fades away over time.
