Rhinophyma Surgery
Rhinophyma
£1200
Rhinophyma is a condition where the skin of the nose becomes gradually thickened, bulbous, oily and sometimes red. This is due to an abnormal growth in size of the sebaceous glands and formation of scar-like tissue. The exact cause of this condition is still not fully understood, however we know that it occurs mainly in fair skinned men after the age of 50. Other factors can also contribute such as: sun exposure, rosacea, stress.
Rhinophyma can cause some serious deformity to the nose which can impact the person’s self-esteem. Rhinophyma is usually treated either surgically or using Laser.
At UKSKIN, we prefer to treat Rhinophyma surgically.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and takes around 60 minutes. The excess skin will trimmed off and the nose restored to a natural shape and texture. The wound will be dressed and let to heal by secondary intention. Like with any other surgical procedure, there is a small risk of bleeding, infection and wound healing problems. Patients can go back to their normal daily activities two weeks after surgery but should avoid strenuous exercise for 4 weeks.
You will need to attend the clinic twice a week for 4 weeks in order for us to do a wound check and change the dressings. You will be reviewed and looked after until the wound is completely healed.
