What is an Epidermal Nevus?

Epidermal Nevus is a Benign tumour of the keratinocytes skin cells. It is present at Birth or appears during childhood. It is a Tanned Flat Linear Lesion.

A Very Large Epidermal Nevus can be associated sometimes with neurological or cardiac or bone disorder and it is called the epidermal nevus syndrome. Very rarely a skin cancer called basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma can arise in it.

Removal of the epidermal nevus is by Surgical Excision. The procedure will be done under local anaesthetic and would last approximately 30 minutes. The wound will be closed with sutures and a dressing will be applied on. It will leave a linear scar that usually fades away over time.
